Children can be fussy about toothbrushing as some may not like the sensation on gums while others may feel weird or hurt with the bristles on their teeth. Toddlers and children are not used to toothbrushing like us over the years and may feel discomfort. For some children, toothbrushing can be a real deal, and they can refuse to do it. It is common among children as they do not like the bristles around their teeth.
It is Children’s Dental Health Month, and throughout the month American Dental Association (ADA) is promoting new dental health goals. Every year ADA advocates dental health among children with their new promotional campaigns. If you feel your child is fussy about toothbrushing even once, you can make the most of this opportunity by inculcating some healthy dental habits in your child. You can make it interesting for your child in many ways. Try and leverage this opportunity to create awareness and develop some healthy habits in your child.
Here are some tips for developing healthy habits among your kids.
Follow the schedule – Make sure your child’s everyday routine is not affected, including sleeping patterns and toothbrushing. If your child skips toothbrushing in their routine, they are more likely to fall out of the habit. It is suggested to ensure your child toothbrushes twice a day and follow the same pattern every day.
Try changing the toothpaste – Some children do not like the taste of toothpaste and run away from toothbrushing. You can change the toothpaste and see if they like it or not. Children might get bored of using the same toothpaste, which can cause disinterest in toothbrushing.
Make it fun – You can play a 2-minute song or read to your child so that they are engaged while toothbrushing. Even adults on an average toothbrush for around 45 seconds, way less than required. It can even be difficult for children as they are not used to bristles on their teeth. So, to develop sound and healthy habits, you must try and experiment and make it fun for your child.
Do it together – You can always toothbrush with your child as this can encourage your child to participate in your little activity. You can make it fun by playing some game of whoever toothbrushes for 2-minute will get a reward.
Toothbrush regularly – It is good to understand that if your child doesn’t toothbrush, it can lead to a cavity which not treated on time can be painful and cost you. You don’t want to be in such a difficult situation for your child; instead, try and ensure that your child toothbrushes twice a day.
